MARS / PRIVACY
How this website handles information.
Updated 8 October 2026
This notice describes the MARS promotional website at marscolony.app as it operates today. It also covers the optional Friends & invitations service used by the development game.
Information you submit
There is currently no account, newsletter form, analytics service or advertising tracker on this website. It does not currently collect email addresses or send visitor data from its page scripts.
Friends & invitations
Connecting a player in the game sends a device-generated player key and a random base identity to our HTTPS invitation service. The service stores a hash of the key, player and base identities, invitation codes, which player accepted each code, startup qualification and a ledger of in-game funding. It uses these records to limit you to five outstanding invitations, return a slot when a friend plays and credit 50M to the inviting base once. These credits are game currency, not money.
No contact list, email address or message is sent by this feature. You choose where to paste an invitation. Your device keeps its player key in friends.json; protect it with your save backup. There is no cross-device login or account recovery yet. Service records persist to preserve invitations and prevent duplicate grants; automated deletion and a fixed retention period have not yet been implemented. Hosting may log requests as described below. The API rate limit stores hashed network-address/hour values, not raw addresses. The invitation page displays a code from its URL and does not redeem it or register a player.
Display preferences
If you change “Reduce motion” or “Higher contrast”, the website stores that choice in your browser’s local storage under the keys mars-site-reduced-motion and mars-site-high-contrast. Those preferences stay in your browser and are not submitted to the site. You can remove them by clearing this site’s browser data.
Web hosting
Your browser sends technical information such as your IP address, requested URL and browser details to the hosting server to load the site. The hosting service may record that information in access or error logs for operation and security. The website scripts do not provide access to those logs or set their retention period.
External destinations
If you follow a future link to a game store or community service, that service will handle your information under its own privacy notice. No store or community tracking scripts are embedded here.
